‘4 x 40 days of spiritual journey … 1st half

27 05 2012

First 20 stages of the journey completed. A long ardous journey it was. I am taking a 40 day retreat to contemplate and review what I had learned and applied to my life from the first 20 stages of this journey.

Day 20 (8/11-14/2012) : Restoring Broken Relationships.

Human conflicts cannot be avoided. But avoiding resolving broken relationship due to conflicts is un-Godly. It’s not easy but it must be done as soon as possible. 7 Biblical Steps is advised here.

Point to Ponder: Relationship is always worth restoring

Verse to Remember:  Romans 12:18 ; If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone

A Q? to consider: Who do I need to restore broken relationships today? I could not think any major rift I am yet to mend, but in lesser sense I may have overlooked. Will try to take a backstep and review some past actions.

Day 19 (8/07-10/2012) : Cultivating Community.

Community requires commitment.

Point to Ponder: Community requires commitment.

Verse to Remember:  1John 3:16 ; This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for other believers.

A Q? to consider: How can I help cultivate today the characteristics of a real community in my small group and my church? This aspect i really cannot answer directly at the current life situation, I will reserve this juncture for the future time. Will revert back on this…

Day 18 (8/03-06/2012) : Experiencing Life Together.

Life is meant to be shared in fellowship. Fellowship should be practiced in the deeper level and not to appear like a social gatherings mostly superficial in nature only. It is advisable to have a real fellowship done in small groups whereas all the members have the chance to share and hear each other’s hurts, fears, difficulties and burdens. We must be honest to ourselves and each other, mutually giving and receiving strengthening trust and support.

Point to Ponder: You need others in your life.

Verse to Remember: Gal 6:2 ; Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

A Q? to consider: What one step that you can take today to connect to another believer at a more genuine heart to heart level? I need to be true to myself first before I’ll be ready to handle taking the truth from others. Must build the strong foundation of faith deep within me.

Day 17 (7/30-8/02/2012) : A Place to Belong.

We we’re called to belong not just believe. We were not created not to be alone but to be part of a community to be connected together and perform specific roles. Being active in a church is beneficial rather than being isolated that is prone to deceit and back sliding.

Point to Ponder: We we’re called to belong not just believe.

Verse to Remember:  Romans 12 : 5 ; in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

A Q? to consider: Does your level of involvement in a local chruch demonstrate that you love God’s family and that you’re committed to them? I have to confess, It gets tougher and tougher and am at loss of explanation, what shall I do now?

Day 16 (7/26-29/2012) : What matters most.

Life is all about Love. It’s the most absolute important! It is at par only in great importance with how we use our time, performing our tour of duty here on earth.

Point to Ponder: Life is all about Love.

Verse to Remember:  Galathians 5:14 ; The entire law summed up in single command, love your neighbor as you love yourself.

A Q? to consider: Are relationships your first priority? How can you ensure they are? On some avenues, I must admit to have some misses on delivering properly while on some, I have done well. To ensure that I am covering all sides, I must keep more focus and be aware of what I’m acting and behaving towards others.

Day 15 (7/22-25/2012) : Purpose No.2; You we’re formed for God’s family. Point to Ponder: Everything that God has is also ours, those who proudly admit as God’s family!

Point to Ponder: We we’re formed for God’s Family.

Verse to Remember:   Ephesians 1:5 ; He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—

A Q? to consider: How can you start treating other non believers like members of your own family? Indeed, a tough act to do. For even within own family tree, some branches and leaves are bound to separate and part ways eventually. But this must not stumble us to treat the entirety as what we would like to treat our selves and our God.

Day 14 (7/18-21/2012) : When God seems distant.

Praise God despite of pain, thanking Him during trials, trusting Him when being tempted and surrendering when suffering and loving Him when He seems distant. These  moments of spiritual dryness and high doubt are called as the “dark night of the soul“. At these moments, our faith are being tested. When everything seems not working well and we seemed deeply sunk into crisis and God seems nowhere near us, what can we do? We can do what Job did, pour out to God all our heart and feelings. We cannot be quiet and bitter, we must pour out all these emotions and speak out to God. And He will not let us whither in vain.

Point to Ponder: God is real no matter how we feel.

Verse to Remember:  Hebrews 13:6  ;  For God has said, I will never leave you, I will never abandon you.

A Q? to consider: How can you stay focused on God’s presence specially when He feels distant? Whenever I feel having doubt and negative emotions, I muts not let if overwhelm, I must call ou to God and rejuvinate connection with Him.

Day 13 (7/14-17/2012) : Worship that pleases God.

God wants the ALL in us. Not just partially, but the fullness of heart, mind, soul strength and spirit. Worship must be authentic, truthful as per scripture and in spirit, must be devoid of earthly opinionated views and practices. Worship must be heartful, mindful and practical in essence. Worship is not only to be done on worship day but must be done everyday even on moments of doing trivial things. “The heart of the matter is the matter of teh heart”

Point to Ponder: God wants all of us.

Verse to Remember: Mark 12:30 ; Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength

A Q? to consider: Which is more pleasing to God now? Your public worship or your private worship? What you’re gonna do about this?  Public worship is just a fraction of a whole week. Private worship carries more weight and must be given more attention and full dedication. It is clear to me now, and I’ll gladly oblige.

Day 12 (7/10-13/2012) : Developing Your friendship with God.

Friendship must be worked out and desire our friendship with Him above all else. We must be completely honest on our faults and feelings, we can be fully open to Him. We can be an obedient follower thru simple acts of helping others that shows an expression of love to Him. On cases that we may lose the passion toward Him, we may encounter painful experiences in order to awoke from spritual lethargy and be energized once again with greater spiritual intensity.

Point to Ponder: You are as close to God as it used to be.

Verse to Remember: James 4:8 ; Come near to God and he will come near to you.

A Q? to consider: What prartical choices will you make today in oder to grow closer to god? I can start and initiate building frienship with other children of God even non-believers and try to show them thru my life how it means to be living close to God. To be a living example.

Day 12 (7/10-13/2012) : Developing Your friendship with God.

Point to Ponder:

Verse to Remember:

A Q? to consider:

Day 11 (7/06-09/2012) : Becoming Best Friend with God.

Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence Him. With them alone He shares the secrets of His promise. But how can I get get closer to Him and get to share the secrets? By Prayer and Meditation. Breath prayers are suggested, simple prayers that can be repeated in one breath. Examples: “I recieve your Grace” or “You’re with me Lord” or “Help me to trust you more”… Meditations can be done on even common task, the key is to connect with Him… thru focused thinking (meditation) of the Word of God. By prayer without ceasing we connect to Him, by medidation He responded back.

Point to Ponder: God wants to be your bestfriend.

Verse to Remember: Psalm 25:148 Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence Him.

A Q? to consider: What can you to remind yourself to think about God and to talk to Him more often throughout the day? In daily walks of life, there are many ways to think and be able to talk to Him. Even in simple mentioning Him and giving praise and thanks are sure way to get closer to Him. Nowadays, facebook serves as a tool. Even mobile alarms can be handily used… and many more.

Look at that! 40 days had already came to pass! 1/4 of the Journey completed and insights after insights kept on flowing, what more can I say? …… Just Keep On Going! Praise Be To God 🙂

Day 10 (7/02-05/2012) : The heart of Worship.

The heart of worship is surrender. Surrender means giving full reliance to God and let the work handed to us be completed successfully and accordingly with His determined time. We will be less worried if we are struggling apparently at a given moment. It was determined that way, we are being strengthened slowly and surely through trials and obstacles. I would rather be surrendering my life to Him than to surrender to a chaotic and turbulent life away from God. Oh Lord God, i fully surrendered my life to you.

Point to Ponder: The heart of Worship is Surrender.

Verse to Remember: Romans 6:13 Surrender you Whole Being to Him, to be used for righteous purposes.

A Q? to consider: What areas of your life are you holding back from God? As the journey continues ahead, I know and  will still discover some hidden areas needed to be surrendered to Him, must surrender them all and so I will.

Day 9 (6/28-7/01/2012) : What makes God smile?

We must Love Him Supremely, We must trust and put faith on Him completely, We must obey Him wholeheartedly, We must praise and thank Him continually and We must use our God’s given abilities for the upliftment of His Glory. We must fully enjoy living under His creation and He will be pleased as well seeing us enjoy.

Point to Ponder: God smiles when you trust Him.

Verse to Remember: Psalm 147:11; The Lord is pleased for those who chose to worship Him and trust His Love.

A Q? to consider: Since God knows what is best, in what areas of your life do you need to trust Him most? I fully trust that the plans and goals that I’m pursuing now will garner His most pleasurable commendations.

Day 8 (6/24-27/2012) : Purpose No.1; You we’re planned for God’s pleasure.

Let’s do everything that is dedicated for the pleasure of God’s eye.

Point to Ponder: You we’re planned for God’s pleasure.

Verse to Remember: Psalm 149:4; The Lord takes pleasure in His people.

A Q? to consider: What common task could you start doing as if you’re doing it directly for Jesus? Dream, conceptualize, plan, detail and build a Pro-creation worthy endeavor.

Day 7 (6/20-23/2012) : .The Reason for Everything.

The universe is created to glorify God. We humans can bring glory to God by worshiping Him, loving other believers, by living our life like the way His son Jesus Christ live his life, by serving others with our gifts and talents and by spreading and telling others about Him. We must believe and receive Jesus Christ as our savior that will bring us eventually into becoming children of God.

Point to Ponder: It’s All for Him.

Verse to Remember: Romans 11:36; For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever!

A Q? to consider: Where in your daily routine can you become more aware of God’s glory? On times that I need to exercise great compassion, forgiveness and humility towards non believers… it’s where I found myself getting closer to God.

Day 6 (6/16-19/2012) : Life is A Temporary Assignment.

Use it with extreme focus. The stay here will not be long, don’t be attached. The tour of duty will not last like forever. Must serve it extremely well as per God’s Plan.

Point to Ponder: “This World is not my Home.”

Verse to Remember: 2 Cor 4:18; So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

A Q? to consider: How should the fact that life on Earth change the way you are living right now? By detachment, I must worry less and start focusing on what is unseen and waiting for me after the tour of duty gets completed here on Earth.

Day 5 (6/12-15/2012) : Seeing Life from God’s View.

Conform not in the Standards of this World. When mind changes completely thru inward transformation, the Will of God Will be Known. How can this happen? Accordingly, Life’s’ Metaphor is being offered by the bible to teach God’s View of Life. Metaphors No#1; Life is a Test, everyday’s happening is a Test even the apparent disappointment. No#2; Life is a Trust, Everything we have in this world is given to us to as an evaluation of our trust-worthiness. We are all stewards of God’s possessions that are being entrusted to our care and management. No#3; Life is a Temporary Assignment.

Point to Ponder: “Life is a Test and A Trust.”

Verse to Remember: Luke 16:10; “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

A Q? to consider: What has happened to you recently that you now realized as a test from God? I know realized fully that I am being tested on how trust-worthy to be God’s Great Steward of His Wealth here on Earth”

Day 4 (6/08-11/2012) : Made to Last Forever.

Everything we do here on earth will just serve as a practice and preparation for what we are about to do in eternity…

Point to Ponder: “There’s more to life than just here and now.”

Verse to Remember: 1 John 2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

A Q? to consider: Since you are made to last forever, what is the one thing you should stop doing and the one thing you should start doing? Stop focusing on worry causing trivia’s of this world, and start focusing on the real task at hand that would upgrade the potential to handle the eternal task when the transgression to the afterlife eventually comes.

Day 3 (6/04-07/2012) : What drives your life?

Guilt, Resentment & Anger, Fear, Materialism, Need for Approval… these are life’s drivers derived away from Godly Awareness. These are like sink-holes that We must strive to push ourselves out in order to actively fulfill the “Purpose Driven Life”.

How does knowing the Purpose benefit us? We’ll have a meaning on whatever We desire in life, we can endure the challenges and difficulties we’ll encounter in the attainment of the Purpose. We’ll be able to simplify and reduce the unnecessary clutters. We’ll achieve focus and become effective in selecting what is needed and not. It will concentrate our passion and energy into distinct path much like a laser beam. And we will hit our mark, we will pass the test and achieve the objective… gaining the pass to move into the path to eternity.

Point to Ponder: “Living on Purpose is the Path to Peace”

Verse to Remember: ISAIAH 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

A Q? to consider: What would your family and friend say is the driving force of your life? The desire to fully grow and evolve into fulfilling the Purpose that was meant to be. The God’s Will that will be done!

Day 2 (5/31-03/2012) : You are not an Accident!

We did not came to this world by chance. We were created as per plan, was conceived to come on the pre-determined time. It was done that way in order for us to serve the designated purpose. God has brought us, to be used mightily to glorify His Kingdom through the mirrors of our life. In living a life fully emancipated from worldly desires and focusing on a God-like existence, We shall succeed in fulfilling our Destiny!

Point to Ponder: “You are not an accident!”

Verse to Remember: Isaiah 44:2, This is what the Lord says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you..

A Q? to consider: “What am I struggling to accept?” I am still at a struggle on which to believe. Are we really created like GOD?

Day 1 (5/27-30/2012) : What on Earth Am I Here For?

We are all transients of this world. We were sent to fulfill a tour of duty (TOD). Scaling the heights of this TOD determines how achieving a level of enlightenment will bring us closer in the likeness of our creator, Our GOD. All those who were sent here, many got lost along the way and indulged wantonly on this world’s lust and material excesses. The sooner We realize that we must give lesser meaning of the word “Me, Myself, What’s in it for Me?” and put greater transformation to ”What Is expected from Me?” , “What is the Purpose of My Life” , “What Drives My Existence?”…

These revealing discovery of the “Greater Cosmic Purpose” will bring us closer as we took the first step, driving us with the pre-destined steps leading through the path of the walk Into the Light… ”The Purpose Driven Life”.

Point to Ponder: “It’s not about me!”

Verse to Remember: COL 1:16, For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

A Q? to consider: “How can I remind myself that I’m created for serving GOD, and not myself?” I will know the answer to this question after this journey…

Why 4 x 40 days?

I will allot each day-steps be taken at 4 days span, in order to fully digest and absorb the essence and insights.

‘Machiavellian Principles…

19 05 2012

Machiavelli believed in success by any means.  He writes in The Prince that “the skill of an individual leader is the key factor in determining the success of a state or enterprise.”  In today’s world, the behaviors, competencies, and responsibilities of the project leader are key factors in determining the success of the project.

The main function of project leadership is clear when Machiavelli discusses conspiracies in The Prince and concludes that “…a prince should not worry too much about conspiracies, as long as his people are devoted to him;”  Project leaders need to create bonds with the project team. People create projects; project plans don’t create projects.

Positive expectations have powerful effects on performance.  The wise project leader makes sure that all team members know that what they do matters. The successful project leader finds ways to express and cultivate positive expectations.

Richard Vetere, a playwright, found the spirit of Machiavelli-style leadership refreshing and engaging. He suggests seven principles as Machiavelli’s advice to today’s project leaders:

1. Anticipate the worst and take action. Risk can never be eliminated, but it can be contained by those who plan ahead and take appropriate action.

2. Reliable allies are those who benefit from our successes. Team up with those who truly benefit from our victories.

3. Free time and work time really are all part of the limited amount of time we have at our disposal to succeed at our goals. Do not squander them, not even during periods of rest.

4. Forgiving those who do us wrong is a mistake. When we forgive those who do us harm, we undercut the efforts of those who are loyal. Punish the disobedient; love the loyal. This was Machiavelli’s perspective. I do not share this opinion, and you may not either. Machiavelli believed that to forgive those who do us wrong was a mistake.  You may find this to be contrary to your own moral compass, and the point he was stressing was that if a project leader was to forgive in the sense of overlooking or accepting poor workmanship, this undercuts the efforts of the diligent, conscientious project team members.  Reprimand when necessary, praise wherever possible.

5. Passion is the best motivator. It pays to seek out people who believe passionately in what they do.

6. Trust enemies above friends for frankness. We can trust our enemies to criticize us when we deserve to be criticized. Friends are often less honest with us.

7. The hard road to the top is often the best. Machiavelli believed that leaders who inherit their success are often more likely to fail than self-made leaders who are forced to learn important life lessons during their own climbs.

So for project leaders, it seems that Machiavelli’s iron rules are as timely and important today as they were 500 years ago.

14 05 2012

Pestilence does not mean the farm is totally anihilated. Even the pest ‘locust’ can be proven as source of food protein.

A clean sheet of paper with spilled coffee on it does not mean the paper is wasted. If one looks further and open his mind, he may found out that the spilled coffee can be a useful thing on top of the spoiled(?) piece of paper. One can use a brush or even bare hands… to transform the spilled coffee into a “coffee paintings”

Just like with the stock market now which is badly battered and bruised. The trading phraise “Sell in May and Go Away” is the flavor of the month and is literally causing ‘MAY’hem.

However, I prefer to look into a bigger picture that is bigger than the price charts itself.

In doing so, I engaged fully all my radar scanner. Scanning from the fields that had been badly hammered with outbreak of pests. I only found one that had been infested way before the market got hit with pests and seemed resilient now. I could not resist picking it and it closes green today. Will it prove as the probervial nail that sticks out? Or am I talking too much about pest?

And same goes with Our Beloved Philippines. In here I see a great chance to unite All Filipinos againsts a foreign aggressor. To once again lit the fire of Nationalism and Patriotism. To once again stand up and Be United. The Opportunity is being offered in a silver platter…. we must grab it with open hands. It’s now or never.
. . .

Yes Indeed! Opportunity Can Be found in any Disaster. It always prove true.

‘cheap gas and grocery – where?

6 05 2012

Super Gasoline, 95 Octane = 0.60 riyal/liter or +7 pesos / liter!

Potato = 0.75 riyal/kg or 9 pesos/kg!

How much are these in the Philippines now?

‘rediscovering the philippines

1 05 2012

Be honest: What do you know about the Philippines?

Ten bucks says it’s 1980s First Dictator Lady Imelda Marcos’s 3,000 pairs of shoes. Or the mysterious draw of fast-food joint Jollibee. Maybe it’s the cocktail party-wowing fact that Journey front man Arnel Pineda was a Filipino street kid who turned into a cover-band sensation and then became the heir to great American Steve Perry.
The Southeast Asian country of 100 million has not had an easy history. Colonial exploitation. Corruption. Rampant poverty. False starts. But now there are signs that the Philippines, the world’s 33rd largest economy, might be on a sustainable upward trajectory. Under the leadership of Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, son of late ex-president Corazon Aquino, the country is fighting corruption and tax dodging and is investing heavily in infrastructure and relief for the poor. His 2012 national budget calls for 26 percent further infrastructure spending than in 2011, addressing access to potable water, better roads, and train service.
Greater Manila is a megalopolis that teems with 25 million people across six provinces; wastewater treatment and access to electricity are simply not keeping up with the capital’s sprawl. Its main airport needs to be expanded—and fast—just to keep up with the growth in tourism and business travel in and out of the country. Private capital sees opportunities. Philippine Airlines just said it plans to order at least 100 new planes, resume flights to Europe, and bolster U.S. capabilities. China Hydro is investing $500 million to construct a pair of solar and wind power-generating plants in the city of Subic.
Already, Manila sports the third largest mall on the planet: SM City North EDSA, with 1,100 shops, 400 of which include places to eat. The Philippines is becoming a preferred alternative to India for multinationals’ call-center operations. A critical stream of income to the economy is remittances from 10 million Filipinos living abroad, where they dominate nursing and hospitality-industry staffing. Perhaps no other economy so disproportionately enjoys such a steady stream of incoming dollars, euros, and pesos. According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the January-March period saw job orders for professional and technical, service, and production workers jump by 25 percent over the same period last year.
This story is getting noticed in the debt markets. The yield on the Philippines’s 8 percent bonds due July 2031 fell last week to 5.94 percent. By comparison, investors are pricing out Spain and its PIIGS peers. The Philippines Stock Exchange PSEi Index is up 20 percent this year—40 percent since September 2011—and keeps setting all-time highs.
This is but one vignette of what Goldman Sachs (GS) christened The Next 11 (PDF)—Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Turkey, South Korea, and Vietnam—as a sequel to its case for investing in the BRICs of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Goldman called the N-11 in December 2005, well before the global financial crisis changed everything.
Keep an eye on the Philippines.
